    Abrasion / Wear

There are more and more applications for abrasion resistant Tungsten Carbide grades. We study with each customer the constraints of use of the part in order to deliver the grade corresponding to his needs (grade requested or proposed by our application engineer) with the desired tolerances for machining.

    • Shouldered bars for drilling and milling.
    • Sandblasting nozzles.
    • Tower tips.
    • Wire guide, pulleys
    • Drawing balls.
    • Spinning cores.
    • Guide rings.
    • Wear resistant rings, washers.
    • Blocks for wire cutting.
    • Shouldered or straight compression cores
    • Special blanks according to plan.

    Expertise consulting service

Thanks to its high-performance laboratory, HEXAMETAL also offers analysis and consulting services. A finished piece of sintered metal is the result of a long and complex journey. Problems encountered in use can be directly related to failures in the development process.

    Analysis :

    • Identification of a Tungsten Carbide grade or other Tungsten-based alloy.
    • Control of compliance with ISO standards.
    • Identification of any structural anomalies (free carbon, fragile phases or residual porosities).
    • Granulometry to check the size of the grains and the homogeneity of their distribution.

    advice :

As the performance of a part is also linked to the application made of it, our diagnosis is established in partnership with the technicians and engineers of our customers to lead to an advisory action on:

    • The choice of a Tungsten Carbide grade adapted to a specific need
    • An optimum method of assembling the Tungsten Carbide part to steel or other materials
    • The machining of the part in Tungsten Carbide.

    The ISO’s norm :

Determination of the density of impermeable sintered metal and hardmetal materials: ISO 3369 standard.

    Vickers hardness test:

    • On hard metals: ISO 3878 standard
    • On metallic materials: ISO 6507 standard

    Rockwell hardness test:

    • On hard metals: ISO 3738 standard
    • On metallic materials: ISO 6508 standard
    • Metallographic determination of porosity and uncombined carbon in hardmetals: ISO 4505 standard
    • Metallographic determination of hardmetal microstucture: ISO 4499 standard

    Expertise :

      COMPLETE ANALYSIS:

      • Complete diagnosis of the technical characteristics of a Tungsten Carbide part:
      • Preparation of the sample: grinding, polishing, chemical attack of the surface.
      • Determination of density (density): ISO 3369
      • Vickers HV 50 hardness test: ISO 3878
      • Macrographic examination, magnification (x 20).
      • Metallographic determination of porosity A and B and non-conbined carbon C, magnification (x 200): ISO 4505
      • Metallographic determination of microstructure, magnification (x2000): ISO 4499
      • Search for fragile phases and traces of impurities.

      Formation :

Our in-house training program responds to a need of hard metal users, in particular Tungsten Carbide.

Our program has a double objective:

      • Help users to better understand the product and control its behavior in the face of increasingly diverse applications.
      • Give a concrete explanation to the different phenomena they may encounter
